October 19, 2009

  • Alberto Contador and Astana Cycling Team claim the top spot at the end of the season, holding the same since the Tour de France at the end of July.
  • Alexandr Vinokourov made a big leap from 247th to 104th in the final standings.
  • Spain dominated the Nations catagory, almost doubling the points for second place Italy.
  • The top three individual riders all come from Spain.
  • Team Astana ended up with 14 ranked riders from seven different countries.
  • Congratulations to all of our team riders for a great season of racing.

September 21, 2009

  • Alberto Contador and Astana Cycling Team are still at the top of UCI standings, almost two months after the Tour de France.
  • After la Vuelta, Jesus Hernandez and Alexandr Vinokourov were ranked for the first time.
  • Spain is still the #1 country and leads in the Nations catagory.
  • Giro di Lombardia in October is the next (and last) ranked race.

August 24, 2009

  • Alberto Contador and Astana Cycling Team still sit at the top in the UCI standings.
  • Max Iglinskiy's fine 8th-place showing in the Vattenfall Cyclassics moved him from 177 to 129 on the individual standings.
  • Spain still leads in the Nations catagory.
  • Eneco Tour and GP Ouest France - Plouay will both figure into next week's new rankings as the year winds down with the Vuelta a España in September and Giro di Lombardia in October.

August 17, 2009

  • Alberto Contador still at the top in the UCI standings. Only real change in the top 10 was Allan Davis of Quick Step breaking into the top 10 after Vattenfall Cyclassics.
  • Team Astana remains #1 since the Tour de France.
  • Spain still has the Nation's lead locked up, but the USA moved up with Tyler Farrar's win in Vattenfall.
  • Eneco Tour starts August 18 and is the next PT race.

August 10, 2009

  • Alberto Contador still leads in the UCI rankings with no top ten changes this weel.
  • Team Astana remains in the #1 slot, with only team change in Columbia moving up.
  • Spain keeps it's tight grip on the lead in the Nations category with a wide margin over Italy.
  • Three more UCI races in August--next up is Vattenfall Cyclassics on August 16th in Germany.

August 3, 2009

  • Alberto Contador stays at the top of the UCI rankings, followed by Andy Schleck.
  • Team Astana is still in the #1 slot for highest-placed team.
  • Spain remains ranked as the #1 country too--no big changes this week in the UCI standings.

July 27, 2009

  • Alberto Contador moves to the top of the list with his fine Tour de France win.
  • Teammates Andreas Klöden and Lance Armstrong move to 6th and 23rd respectively for their 3rd and 6th place wins also at the Tour.
  • Team Astana is now ranked as the #1 team.
  • Spain remaing the #1 country in the National rankings.

June 22, 2009

  • Alberto Contador stays in 2nd place behind Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d'Epargne) for a second week.
  • Maxim Iglinskiy is ranked for the first time after his strong 2nd place stage placing in Tour de Suisse.
  • Andreas Klöden is now in 20th place (up from 45th).
  • Team Astana remains in 4th place for two weeks in a row.
  • Spain stays as the #1 country in the National rankings.

June 15, 2009

  • After a podium finish in France, Alberto Contador moved to 2nd place behind new leader Alejandro Valverde of Caisse d'Epargne.
  • Haimar Zubeldia also moved from 44th up to 33rd
  • Spain regained the top position in the Nations catagory
  • Team Astana is now ranked 4th.

June 1, 2009

  • Levi Leipheimer, Yaroslav Popovych, Lance Armstrong and Jani Brajkovic earned points from racing in the Giro d'Italia, bringing our total to ten ranked riders after the Giro.
  • Jani's efforts brought Slovenia to the national rankings schedule.
  • Spain dropped out of the top spot and into 2nd place--Italy takes over at the top.
  • Team Astana remains ranked 8th for two weeks in a row.

May 25, 2009

  • Haimar Zubeldia and Alexandr Dyachenko placed 3rd and 7th in Volta a Catalunya, earning solid points for themselves. This is the first time Alexandr has been ranked-congratulations!
  • Alexandr's efforts boosted Kazakhstan in the national rankings up to 20th from 25th.
  • Spain continues to dominate the top spot for nations, helped by Haimar's podium placing behind his fellow countryman Alejandro Valverde's win.
  • Team Astana is now ranked 8th.

May 4, 2009

  • Three of our guys earned points this week from the Tour de Romandie: Gregory Rast, Assan Bazayev and Haimar Zubeldia.
  • Alberto Contador stayed in 3rd place overall while he continues his spring break from racing
  • Andreas Klöden moved from 28th to 31st
  • Spain continues to hold the #1 ranking in the Nations catagory. We have six rider countries represented now: Spain, Germany, Switzerland, USA, Ukraine and Kazakhstan
  • Team Astana is ranked 10th.

April 27, 2009

  • Alberto Contador is taking his well-deserved racing break now and dropped one slot in the overall standings to 3rd.
  • Andreas Klöden won a stage this week but not in a UCI race, so his ranking did not go up. He is now in 28th place on the individual rankings.
  • Team Astana is now ranked 9th.
  • Spain continues to hold the #1 ranking in the Nations catagory with Italy making a big gain this week due to the win by Davide Rebellin in Fleche Wallonne.

April 20, 20009

  • Alberto Contador stays in 2nd place in overall points for the second week in a row.
  • Andreas Klöden dropped to 22nd place, previously in 19th. He will be racin this week in Italy.
  • Team Astana dropped one space to 7th in the Team ranking
  • Spain still holds the #1 ranking in the Nations catagory. Four of our rider countries are rated in this class: Spain, Germany, Switzerland and the USA.

April 13, 2009

  • Alberto Contador moved into 2nd place in overall points with his win in País Vasco, moving up from 13th place.
  • Andreas Klöden is in 19th place (previously in 12th).
  • Team Astana remains in 6th place in the team rankings.
  • Four of nine Team Astana rider countries have points in the nation rankings with Spain holding the #1 spot. Germany, Switzerland and United States of America are the other countries with points.

April 5, 2009

  • Team Astana riders did not gain any individual points in the Tour of Flanders.
  • Andreas Klöden is in 12th place (previously 11th) and Alberto Contador is in 13th (previously 12th). Both did not participate in the Tour of Flanders.
  • Team Astana remains in 6th place in the team rankings.
  • Four of nine Team Astana rider countries (Spain, Germany, Switzerland and the United States of America) have points in the nation rankings.
